If you ever take a walk down the streets of Hackney you will come across many breathtaking trees at every turn.
The Hackney Council has done a great job of preserving these trees, and attempting to spread awareness about botany and spreading awareness about botany.
A survey I conducted revealed that the majority of people asked knew nothing about trees, or how to identify them. The few that has botanic knowledge did so because they were either interested in trees, or had personal memorized with specific trees during their childhood.
Storytelling is one of the core habits intrinsic to human kind. It allows for our minds to link things together such as ideas, other stories, cultures, etc. There is poetry in this notion; thus, to cultivate interest in the trees of Hackney, I decided to link them to stories from history, culture, and mythology.
